Upcoming ceremonies taking place during the voting window include the Cinema Audio Society (March 4), Film Independent Spirit Awards (March 4), USC Scripter Awards (March 4), American Cinema Editors Awards (March 5), American Society of Cinematographers (March 5) and Writers Guild of America Awards (March 5). The voting window for AMPAS members runs from March 2 through March 7 (closing at 5:00 pm PST). Only eight DGA winners have failed to walk away with the Academy Award, most recently Sam Mendes (“1917”), who lost to Bong Joon Ho (“Parasite”) in 2020. Over its 75-year history, the DGA Awards has been the most reliable barometer for the Oscars’ best director prize. The DGA boasts a voting body of around 19,000 members.
